Choosing the pot isn’t an after-thought; it’s the root-zone real estate that decides whether your plants cruise or crawl. Use the cheat-sheet below to match pot size, shape and colour to the way you grow.

Root-zone oxygen = yield. Add an inch (25 mm) of hydro-clay balls at the base or pick air-base pots to stop “wet feet” in heavy feeds.

Square → square saucers. Keeps runoff where you want it and reduces algae growth under the pot.

Label by litre. Sharpie the size on each pot – future you will thank present you when repotting day rolls around.
Opinion: In coco drain-to-waste grows, 18 L square pots give the best balance of root space, media cost and plant density for most chillies and tomatoes
